Pope Pius XII (2 March 1876 - 9 October 1858), orignal name Eugenio Maria Giuseppe Giovanni Pacelli, was pope between 1938 and 1958.

Most controversial is his involvement in the controversy regarding the Catholic Church and the Holocaust, as discussed in the article on this topic.

A less known policy is his many appointments of non-Italians to higher positions, possibly contributing to the later liberal policy changes by his successors.
