Aileach (also known as Ailech) was a kingdom which existed in far north-western Ireland from the 5th until the 12th century. It emerged as a break-away from the Kingdom of Ulster, inhabited and under the sovereignty of the Cenél nEógain race. It was also known as the land of the Northern Uí Néill and its rulers were said to have been descended from Niall of the Nine Hostages.

As the O'Neills began a process of ousting their kinsmen the McLaughlins from the kingship, Aileach was superseded by the kingdom of Tyrone, which in a geographical sense was essentially the same area and would not see substantial territorial changes until Tyrconnell in the west, broke-away in 1201 under the kingship of the O'Connells.
