Allen Alderson Zoll II (October 21, 1895 - August 30, 1969)[1] was a New York advertising executive and nationalist organizer founding American Patriots and the Christian Front in the 1930s. After the war he headed the National Council for American Education fighting "progressive" education (Marxism) in the classroom.

Early life

Allen Zoll was born in Atchison, Kansas in 1895 and grew up in Arkansas and Texas. He served as a lieutenant in World War One. He graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1919 and studied law at Harvard for one year. During World War Two he served in the Canadian Army.[2]

In the 1930s he headed the International Association of Sales Executives and was part of the sales consulting firm of Ingersoll Collier Zoll and Norvell.

Politics

Zoll founded American Patriots Inc. in 1936 which was later placed on a subversive list by the US Attorney General. That same year Zoll reportedly traveled to Germany and meet with Joseph Goebbels.[3]

On December 18, 1938 Allen Zoll began demonstrations against WMAC radio station for their decision to ban Father Charles Coughlin from their air waves. The station had insisted Father Coughlin present his radio remarks at least 48 hours in advance for review. Father Coughlin refused this attempt of censorship having addressed the nation on a number of radio stations in the past. The Christian Front grew out of these demonstrations. AJC report on these activities

In January 1939 he testified at a Senate hearing in opposition to Supreme Court nominee Felix Frankfurter as a spokesman for the American Federation Against Communism.

When World War Two occurred he was rejected by the US military for his alleged fascist activities in the 1930s and went to Canada, enlisting in the Canadian Army for the war effort.

In 1945 he was back in the United States working in Detroit as advertising manager of the magazine Yachting and Aviation.[4]

In late 1949 he started a group called the American Intelligence Agency issuing a periodic bulletin. Zoll also started American Liberty Press issuing reprints of news articles.

Post-war years

In May 1953 Allen Zoll married Genevieve Egan Tillar, widow of Texas oilman Benjamin J. Tillar. Later that year they visited several Arab countries meeting with leaders in the Middle East. At a press conference in Cairo, Zoll was described as an American tycoon willing to invest in Egyptian projects.[5]

In the 1960s Zoll worked with Willis Carto and his group Liberty Lobby.
