From Metapedia
John Phillip Walker Lindh (born February 9, 1981) is an American who was captured during the 2001 invasion of Afghanistan while serving in the Taliban army, after a violent Taliban prison uprising known as the Battle of Qala-i-Jangi. During this uprising, the first American casualty in the War in Afghanistan, CIA officer Johnny "Mike" Spann, was killed.
He was trained in the Al-Farouq terrorist training camp in Afghanistan, run by Al-Qaeda; at this camp he attended a lecture by Osama bin Laden before the September 11, 2001 terror attacks. Before training in the Al-Farouq camp, he received training with another designated terrorist organization, Harkat-ul-Mujahideen in Pakistan. He was subsequently sentenced to twenty years in prison, which he is currently serving.
Lindh prefers to go by the name Hamza Walker Lindh today, although during his time in Afghanistan, he went by Sulayman al-Faris.
