Jeremy Bernard Corbyn (born 26 May 1949) is a British politician who in 2015 was elected leader of the Labour Party, till 2020. Under him Labour achieved its highest ever membership levels, almost 600,000. He has been the member of Parliament for Islington North (London) since 1983. In October 2020 the Labour Whip was removed from him and he now sits as an Independent. Party membership has plummeted by 200,000 as a result.

Corby describes himself as a democratic socialist and was elected as party Leader due to support from the more Left-wing elements within the party. He is strongly in favour of mass immigration. Corbyn has also opposed various foreign military interventions, including Iraq and Afghanistan, has expressed pro-Palestinian views and has been strongly opposed by the Israel lobby in Parliament. He had also supported the IRA and political party, Sinn Féin. Such factors have been argued to ensure the destruction of the Labour Party. See the "External links" section.
