Not to be confused with the German American Bund

The German Bund (Deutscher Volksbund) also known as the Association of German Nationals was formed in 1935 after the German American organization Friends of New Germany was dissolved. This was a decision made by Rudolf Hess.[1]

In 1936 the German American Bund was formed largely from members of Friends of New Germany who were American citizens. German nationals who were members of Friends of New Germany thereby formed the German Bund. The group was also referred to as the Chicago German Bund since many of their members numbering around 300 were from that city. The organization was headed by Fritz Heberling.

The German Bund was dissolved in 1937 by orders of the German consul in Chicago. A new organization emerged from the German Bund named the German Citizens’ League also known as the Alliance of German Nationals. Fritz Heberling also headed the new German American ogranization.[2]
