Abraham Ortelius was a Belgian cartographer who is considered the founding father of the Atlas. Born in Antwerp in 1527. During his lifetime, Ortelius created many maps of the world on behalf of King Phillip II of Spain. Ortelius died on July 41598 in Antwerp.
