The term Holocaust is originally a Greek word that meant "sacrificial fire" or "to offer up" & "ascend" [etymology: to rise up & ascend like the smoke from a fire/sacrifice]. This definition has been mostly replaced by the use of the term to describe the alleged systematic extermination of Jews (and sometimes other groups like Gypsies) as a said 'official' policy of the Third Reich. The Holocaust has had a major effect on public opinion in the decades since. It has been used as a political weapon against racism and those opposed to Zionism and other aspects of the Jewish agenda. Disputing Holocaust claims (such as the "six million" figure for the number of Jews killed, and the use of "homicidal gas chambers") is a crime in many European nations and those who engage in such activity have been labeled Holocaust deniers. The so-called "deniers" are known as historical revisionists, and maintain that they are "finally setting the record straight".

Purported evidence for the Holocaust

A quote from one of Hitler's speeches is a favorite of writers on the Holocaust, where he said, Today I want to be a prophet again. If international finance Jewry within Europe and abroad should succeed once more in plunging the peoples into a world war, then the consequence will be not the Bolshevization of the world and therewith a victory of Jewry, but on the contrary, the destruction of the Jewish race in Europe.

Most of evidence consists of memories of leading National Socialists like Adolf Eichmann and Rudolf Hoess (not to be confused with Rudolf Hess), but they were probably forced to write those memoirs under duress after the end of World War II by the victorious forces, in fact they are full of mistakes and often cite non-existing elements. For an article on how Hoess was tortured see[1]

Another major link in the pro-holocaust case is the testimony of National Socialist defendants in the Nuremberg trials and other trials such as Eichmann's trial in Israel. Holocaust revisionists point out that defendants in fear for their lives & under much duress (even torture, harsh maltreatment & deprivation of personal liberty) they were merely trying to save their own skins (in many cases, unsuccessfully), and deliberately hijacked their testimony, such as references to fictional death camps and captured enemy submarines. Revisionists also point to later admissions of torture of the defendants, torture which could have led to false confessions.

Other issues include the Wannsee conference, aerial photographs of Auschwitz, other extermination methods that were claimed at the time, such as electrocution and burning (whence the word "holocaust"), discredited allegations like soap and lampshades made from bodily remains, and more specific criticism of individual eye-witness accounts, as well as discussion on the quantity and quality of evidence for the allegations.

Jewish population after the Holocaust

Most statistics about Jewish population report that it has increased during WWII.

Holocaust denial laws

Discussion of the issue of the Holocaust is severely restricted by laws in many European countries, including Germany (where Ernst Zündel is currently incarcerated) and France. Also in Czech Republic, "holocaust denial" (not defined more thoroughly) is a crime. In Slovak Republic, you may get a jail sentence of 6 months to 3 years for "publicly denying, questioning, approving, or trying to justify a holocaust".

Rise of the ‘deniers’

Over the years the Holocaust story has been challenged by brave individuals who have risked ridicule, loss of position, and imprisonment in their defense of the truth. Those who have taken this stand bring the public’s attention to this issue in a way scholarly books and articles can not. Ernst Zündel and David Irving have been imprisoned in Canada, Germany, and Austria for challenging Holocaust laws. Recently Bishop Richard Williamson has been told by Pope Benedict XVI to recant his skepticism of Holocaust claims. [2] The public is beginning to ask itself why is this issue is so important that people must be imprisoned and denounced for not believing the official story.

Holocaust-Creed

I believe in one Holocaust®, conceived in Hollywood, born of the New York media: and in Six Million Judaics, who suffered under Adolf Hitler and were gassed, made into lampshades and cremated. In the 21st century they arose again, to haunt the living and the dead. I believe in Elie Wiesel and the geysers of blood, and Arnold Friedman and the color-coded crematory smoke, the holy Shoah biz Church, the communist saints, no forgiveness of German sins, the resurrection of lies, and the shelf-life everlasting of the Auschwitz gas chamber stories. Amen.
